  1. Indo-Nepal Tourism Forum to be set up

The second meeting of tourism Joint Working Group (JWG) between India and Nepal was held in Kathmandu on 06.07.2018.

  • In this meeting it was agreed to set up the Indo Nepal Tourism Forum with representation from government and private sector from both sides for mutual consultation and promotion of tourism in both countries.
  • This JWG also decided to officially recognise two circuits, Ramayana Circuit and Buddhist Circuit by both governments for joint promotions through common branding and marketing exercises.
  1. Odisha To Implement Own Food Security Act From October

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced that the state government would implement its own food security act from October 2 this year.

  • Odisha’s own food security act would cover nearly 34.44 lakhs people who have been left out from the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
  • Mr Patnaik made this announcement while participating in the ‘Ama Mukhyamantri, Ama Katha’ (Our Chief Minister, Our Issues) program.
  1. Hyderabad to host India’s first-ever international blockchain Congress

The inaugural edition of the International Blockchain Congress in India will be held on August 3 & 4 at, Novotel & HICC Complex, Hyderabad.

  • In collaboration with NITI Aayog, and governments of Telangana and Goa, the International Blockchain Congress is aimed at bringing thought-provoking conversations on blockchain for next-generation financial services.
  1. Shripad Yesso Naik lays the foundation stone of the 2nd Phase of construction of NEIAH

 

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Shri Shripad Yesso Naik laid the foundation stone of the 2nd Phase of Construction of North East Institute of Ayurveda & Homeopathy (NEIAH) at NEIAH Campus, Mawdiangdiang, Shillong on 29th July 2018.

  • The approximate estimated cost of the construction is Rs 40.80 crore for an area of 10481.53 sqm and will comprise of residential accommodation for students, doctors and staff and guest house.
  1. 17 antiquities returned to India from U.S since 2016

Till date, 17 antiquities which are also artefacts have been returned to India by US since June 2016.

  • Two antiquities i.e. (1) Saint Manikkavichavakar (Sambanthar), (2) Ganesha have been handed over to Idol Wing of Tamil Nadu Police and one male figure in stone has been sent to Khajuraho Museum.
  • The remaining objects are still in the custody of Archaeological Survey of India.
  1. HDFC awarded best performing lending institution in CLSS schemes

Leading mortgage lender HDFC has been awarded the best performing primary lender in credit linked subsidy scheme ( CLSS) for the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) and LIG (Low Income Group) category.

  • The award was given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • CLSS was introduced in June 2015 under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana ( PMAY) for home loans to customers.
  1. Surendra Rosha named HSBC India CEO

 

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) has announced the appointment of Surendra Rosha as Chief Executive Officer for HSBC India.

  • Rosha succeeds Jayant Rikhye, who is taking a leave of absence for medical reasons.
  • Rosha, who is currently HSBC’s Head of Financial Institutions Group (FIG) for Asia-Pacific,has 27 years of experience in financial services sector.
  1. Parliamentary panel to probe U.K.-India relations

A British parliamentary committee is set up for looking into relations between Britain and India including the impact of Britain’s visa regime.

  • The committee will look at the issue of bilateral trade as well as the impact of Britain’s visa policy, and cooperation on regional security, counterterrorism, technology, innovation and multilateral institutions.
  • Thomas Tugendhat is the Chairman of this Foreign Affairs Committee.
  1. 3rd BRICS Film Festival concluded with India Day

The 3rd BRICS Film Festival took place in Durban, South Africa, along with the International Durban Film Festival (DIFF) from 22-27th July, 2018.

The last day of the festival was celebrated as India Country Day, followed by Awards and Closing Ceremony.
