  1. Myanmar to host Asean education meet in Oct

Myanmar which will host the next Asean Education Ministers Meeting (ASED) in October seeks to boost its education sector by cooperating with India, China and the US among others.

  • The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) partner countries include India, China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia, the US and Australia.
  • The first ASED was held in Singapore in 2006, while the last in Malaysia.
  1. Ireland to hold international conference of female parliamentarians

Ireland will hold an international conference of female parliamentarians in September.

  • Organised by the Irish Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (IWPC) the conference will be held at Dublin Castle on September 9-10.
  • The event will be attended by an estimated 300 delegates from over 27 countries and regions.
  1. PM gifts cows to villagers at Rweru Model Village

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today gifted 200 cows to villagers who do not yet own a cow, under the Rwandan Government’s Girinka Programme.

  • The word Girinka can be translated as ‘may you have a cow’ and describes a centuries-old cultural practice in Rwanda whereby a cow was given by one person to another, as a sign of respect and gratitude.
  1. Indian Air Force Participates for the First Time in Exercise Pitch Black – 18

An Indian Air Force contingent comprising of four Su-30 MKI, 01 X C-130 and 01 X C-17 aircraft, landed at Darwin Air Force Base, Australia for the Exercise Pitch Black – 18.

  • This is the first time that an IAF contingent is participating in a multinational air exercise in Australia with Royal Australian Air Force.
  • This exercise involves over 100 aircraft from around the globe and will provide a unique opportunity to the air-warriors to operate in a dynamic warlike environment.
  1. Swachh Survekshan Grameen launched in UP, Jharkhand and Maharashtra

The Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018 (SSG 2018) announced by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation on July 13th, 2018, was launched by three States this week.

  • Under the SSG 2018, an independent survey agency will conduct the survey in all districts from 1st to 31st August 2018, and the results will be announced in the form of a ranking of all districts and States on the basis of quantitative and qualitative sanitation (Swachhata) parameters.
  • The top performing States and Districts are expected to be awarded on 2nd October 2018.
  1. 36th Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) Meeting of PMAY

Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has approved the construction of 2,67,546 more affordable houses for the benefit of urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

  • The approval was given in the 36thmeeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee in its meeting.
  • With the above proposed houses, cumulative houses under PMAY(U) after subsuming projects of RAY scheme the total number of houses being funded under PMAY(Urban) would be 53,74,306 houses.
  1. 17 sites in the country to be developed as Iconic Tourist Sites

Ministry of Tourism has identified 17 sites in 12 clusters in the country for development under Iconic Tourist Sites Development Project, pursuant to Budget Announcements of 2018-19.

  • Following are the 17 sites: Uttar Pradesh- TajMahal & FatehpurSikri; Maharashtra- Ajanta & Ellora; Delhi- Humayun’s Tomb, Red Fort & QutubMinar; Goa- Colva beach; Rajasthan- Amer Fort; Gujarat- Somnath & Dholavira; Madhya Pradesh- Khajuraho; Karnataka- Hampi; Tamil Nadu- Mahabalipuram; Assam- Kaziranga; Kerala- Kumarakom; Bihar- Mahabodhi.
  • The Ministry shall be developing the above sites in a holistic manner with focus on issues concerning connectivity to the destination, better facilities/experience for the tourists at the site, skill development, involvement of local community, promotion & branding and by bringing in private investment.
  1. Mobile app for replacement of transformers in Raj

Farmers in Rajasthan will soon have the ease to get their defunct transformers replaced within six hours of registering a complaint through a mobile app.

  • Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said the scheme was being launched on a pilot basis from Jhalawar.
  • The scheme would be expanded to other areas of the state.
