  1. India extends $200 million credit lines to Rwanda

India has extended $200 million lines of credit to Rwanda as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with President Paul Kagame and discussed measures to strengthen cooperation in trade and agriculture sector.

  • After the one-on-one talks with president Kagame, Modi announced that India will soon open its mission in Rwanda.
  • The two countries signed agreements on leather and allied areas and agricultural research.
  1. First Meeting of India-Bangladesh Joint Committee on Border Haats

The first meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Committee on Border Haats was held on 22-23 July 2018 in Agartala, Tripura.

  • In the meeting both sides noted the positive impact of Border Haats on the livelihoods of the people living in areas adjoining the Haats.
  • Extensive discussions were held on issues related to review of operations of the four functional Border Haats and suggestions for improvement, timeline for setting up the six additional Border Haats that had earlier been agreed to by both sides and the roadmap for further expansion of Border Haats.
  • It was agreed that the next meeting would be held in Bangladesh on mutually agreed dates.
  1. 75 institutions have been identified to act as National Resource Centres

The Government has identified 75 institutions to act as National Resource Centres (NRCs) to prepare online training material for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

  • In the first phase, 75 discipline-specific National Resource Centres have been identified, under the Ministry’s Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT).
  1. Gadkari inaugurates NH Projects worth Rs 5485 Crores in Madhya Pradesh

Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation inaugurated/ laid the foundation for National Highways projects worth Rs 5485 Crores in Madhya Pradesh today.

  • At an event in Guna this afternoon he laid the foundation stone for 5 NH projects of total length 226 km, worth Rs 3583 Crore.
  1. NITI Aayog signs SoI with Lupin Foundation for Collaborating in Aspirational Districts

A Statement of Intent (SoI) was signed between NITI Aayog and Lupin Foundation to collaborate in Aspirational Districts Programme.

  • The SoI was signed by Shri Yaduvendra Mathur, Additional Secretary, NITI Aayog and Shri Sita Ram Gupta, Executive Director, Lupin Foundation.
  • For this programme, the NITI Aayog and Lupin Foundation are collaborating to improve indicators in education, health & nutrition, financial inclusion and skill development, agriculture and water resources and basic infrastructure in Aspirational Districts of India.
  1. MoU with UK for Improving Public Transport System

 

The Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Kingdom for seeking help in improving overall public transport system in the country.

  • The MoU has been signed between the Ministry of Road Transport & Highwaysand Transport for London (TFL), a statutory body established under the Greater London Authority Act, 1999 (UK) to improve public transport in India.
  • The MoU would help mainly in sharing of information and areas of cooperation like improving the public transport system with an augmentation of passenger capacity, passenger services, data analysis, induction of electric vehicles, introduction of technology, ticketing and the provision of passenger information.
  1. Analjit Singh appointed non-executive Chairman of Max Financial Services

Max Financial Services has named its sponsor and founding shareholder Analjit Singh as nonexecutive chairman of the company.

  • Singh said his appointment on the board was in consultation with current chairman Naina Lal Kidwai.
  • Kidwai will now continue in her role as an independent non-executive director of the company.
  1. Government set up high level committee to check mob lynching

Government is concerned at the incidents of violence by mobs in some parts of the country.

  • Government has set up a high level committee chaired by the Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba to deliberate in the matter and make recommendations.
  • The Secretary, Department of Justice, Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs, Secretary, Legislative Department and Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment are the members of the committee.
  • The committee will submit its recommendations to the Government within four weeks.
  1. AIFF declares Sunil Chhetri player of the year

The All India Football Federation (AIFF), the governing body of football in India named India and Bengaluru FC Captain Sunil Chhetri as the AIFF Player of the Year in the Federation’s Executive Committee Meeting in Mumbai.

  • The meeting was chaired by AIFF President Praful Patel.
  • Kamala Devi bagged the 2017 AIFF Woman Player of the Year.
