  1. BRICS Media Forum opens in Cape Town, South Africa

 

Leaders of media organizations from BRICS countries met to discuss cooperation at the BRICS Media Forum that opened in Cape Town, South Africa.

  • The 3rd BRICS Media forum is being held under the theme of “BRICS Media Cooperation – Fostering an Inclusive, Just World Order”.
  1. Cabinet approves MoU amongst BRICS Nations on the Regional Aviation Partnership

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) amongst BRICS Nations on the Regional Aviation Partnership Cooperation viz. Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

  • The objective is that BRICS countries would benefit from the establishing of an institutional framework to cooperate in the field of civil aviation.
  • The MoU signifies an important landmark in the civil aviation relations between India and other BRICS Member States and has the potential to spur greater trade, investment, tourism and cultural exchanges amongst the BRICS Nations.
  1. IAF participation in Exercise Pitch Black 2018

The Indian Air Force for the first time is participating with fighter aircraft in Exercise Pitch Black 2018 (PB-18), which is scheduled from 24 Jul 18 to 18 Aug 18 in Australia.

  • Pitch Black is a biennial multi-national large force employment warfare exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).
  • The IAF contingent consists of 145 air-warriors including Garud team, 04 X Su-30 MKI, 01 X C-130 and 01 X C-17.
  1. India and USA hold Senior Officers Meeting on Homeland Security Dialogue

 

Senior Officers Meeting on Homeland Security Dialogue between India and USA was held in New Delhi.

  • The meeting focused on issues relating to security cooperation, customs and immigration, aviation security, capacity building etc.
  • Both sides agreed to work out the modalities to address these issues.
  1. PMEGP Generated Over 11 Lakh Employments in Last Three Years

Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme, PMEGP is estimated to have generated over 11,13, 000 employments during the last three years i.e. 2015-16 to 2017-18.

  • This information was given by Minister of state for Micro,Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Giriraj Singh in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
  • PMEGP is a credit linked subsidy scheme, for setting up of new micro-enterprises and to generate employment opportunities in rural as well as urban areas of the country through KVIC, State Khadi & Village Industries Board (KVIB) and District Industries Centre (DIC).
  1. Indo-US delegation meeting on Defence Cooperation

As part of Indo-US Bilateral Defence Cooperation, the 7th Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) meeting was held between India and the US delegation.

  • The meeting was co-chaired by, Secretary (Defence Production), Dr Ajay Kumar and Under Secretary of Defence for Acquisition and Sustainment, DoD, US Government Ms Ellen M Lord.
  • Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ajay Kumar brought out that Indian government has taken a number of steps to give an impetus to Indian defence industry and its flagship ‘Make in India’ initiative.
  1. Udaipur ranked 3rd among world’s best cities

The city of Udaipur has once again in 2018 been ranked among the World’s Best Cities by Travel + Leisure.

  • Udaipur, the heritage-city built by the Maharanas of Mewar in the 16th century, is on the third place among the 15 of the world’s best cities.
  • The top 2 cities are both in Mexico: San Miguel de Allende and Oaxaca.
  1. Google hit with €4.3bn Android fine from EU

Google has been fined a record €4.34bn (nearly 34 Crore) over Android.

  • The European Commission said the firm had used the mobile operating system to illegally “cement its dominant position” in search.
  • The firm’s parent Alphabet has been given 90 days to change its business practices or face further penalties of up to 5% of its average global daily turnover.
  1. Centre Forms Panel To Tackle Industrial Pollution Near Taj Mahal

The government has formed a committee comprising officials of the environment ministry, experts from NEERI, IITs and various other forums to look into the issue of industrial pollution around the iconic Taj Mahal.

  • The committee will be headed by C K Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
  • A high-level inter ministerial meeting was held in Delhi to deliberate on the issues and action to be taken to conserve the iconic Mughal monument.
