- CSIR lab to give technology for India’s first indigenous Lithium Ion Battery project
Central Electro Chemical Research Institute (CECRI), Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu under Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) and RAASI Solar Power Pvt Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Agreement for transfer of technology for India’s first Lithium Ion (Li-ion) Battery project.
- A group at CSIR-CECRI headed by Dr Gopu Kumar has developed an indigenous technology of Lithium-ion cells in partnership with CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL) New Delhi, CSIR- Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CSIR-CGCRI) Kolkata and Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) Hyderabad.
- CSIR-CECRI has set up a demo facility in Chennai to manufacture prototype Lithium-Ion cells.
- Dhanush, India’s first indigenous artillery gun
India’s first indigenous, long-range artillery gun “Dhanush” has passed its final test at Pokhran, paving the way for its induction into the Army.
- Dhanush is a 155mm x 45mm calibre artillery gun and is also called the “desi Bofors”.
- It has a strike range of 38 kilometres and 81% of its components are indigenously sourced.
- Delhi most vulnerable UT in India’s first disaster risk index, Maharashtra leads states
A national disaster risk index mapping hazards and vulnerabilities across 640 districts puts Maharashtra at the top of the chart followed by West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
- Delhi is most at risk among Union territories (UTs).
- The index is currently in the form of a draft report prepared by the Union home ministry with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
- Arvind Saxena appointed acting UPSC chief
UPSC member Arvind Saxena has been appointed as the acting chairman of the commission from June 20, a government order said.
- Saxena, a 1978-batch Indian Postal Service officer, will take over the charge from incumbent Vinay Mittal who completes his term at the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on June 19.
- Appointment of Vigilance Commissioner
Shri Sharad Kumar (Indian Police Service, Retd., HY:1979) has been appointed as the Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission, New Delhi.
- His appointment will be for a term of four years from the date on which he enters upon his office, or till he attains the age of sixty five years, whichever is earlier.

Bangladesh stunned India by three wickets in a last-ball finish to win their maiden Women’s Asia Cup T20 title at the Kinrara Academy Oval, Kuala Lumpur.

Indian captain Sunil Chhetri scored a brace to put himself on par with Lionel Messi and lead the home side to Intercontinental Cup title triumph with a 2-0 win over Kenya in the summit clash.
