  1. Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017 to be Held in Hyderabad

A high-level delegation from the Government of India and the United States met, at NITI Aayog to plan the 2017 Global Entrepreneurship Summit, which will be held November 28-30 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in Hyderabad, India.

  • The Summit will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Advisor to the President, Ivanka Trump, who leads the U.S. delegation.
  • The GES is the preeminent annual gathering of emerging entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders from around the world.
  1. Chandrababu Naidu launches ‘Swachh Andhra Mission’

Taking the cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu launched Swachh Andhra Mission on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

  • Ace shuttler PV Sindhu, who has been chosen as the brand ambassador of Swachh Andhra, joined Naidu on this occasion.
  1. ‘No helmet, no petrol’ rule comes into force in Andhra Pradesh

‘No helmet, no petrol’ rule for two-wheeler riders to reduce road accident deaths has come into force in Andhra Pradesh.

  • Chandrababu has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for equipment to implement this rule.
  • He also ordered the officials to conduct a weekly check on the motorists for effective implementation of the rule.
  • Naidu said that road safety rules must be implemented strictly to reduce the number of road accidents in the states.
  1. Karnataka Government launches Mathru Poorna scheme

The Karnataka government has launched Mathru Poorna, a scheme meant to meet the nutritional needs of pregnant and lactating women in rural areas.

  • Under the programme, pregnant and lactating poor women in rural areas will get one nutritious meal daily for 25 days in a month.
  1. AIIB, ADB approves $ 100 mn loan for India’s power sector

 

China-led AIIB and multilateral funding agency ADB will co-finance a USD 100-million loan for India to improve power transmission network and expand the use of solar and wind energy.

  • The loan, approved by the Board of Directors of the Beijing-headquartered Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), involves co-financing of USD 50 million from the Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB).
  • This was the fourth co-financing made by the AIIB and the ADB, two major multilateral development banks in Asia.
  • India is the second largest shareholder in the AIIB. The bank has an authorised capital of USD 100 billion.
  1. Yatinder Pal Singh Suri elected as PPMAI Chairman

The Process Plant and Machinery Association of India (PPMAI) has elected Yatinder Pal Singh Suri as its new Chairman.

  • Suri is currently working as the Managing Director and India head of Finland-based stainless steel major Outokumpu.
  • PPMAI is a service organisation having members from companies serving in industries such as oil and gas processing, refineries, fertilisers, chemicals, petrochemicals, synthetic fibre, and environmental controls.
  1. Nobel prize in physics awarded for discovery of gravitational waves

Three American physicists have won the Nobel prize in physics for the first observations of gravitational waves.

  • Rainer Weiss has been awarded one half of the 9m Swedish kronor (£825,000) prize, announced by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm.
  • Kip Thorne and Barry Barish will share the other half of the prize.
  • All three scientists have played leading roles in the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, or Ligo, experiment, which in 2015 made the first historic observation of gravitational waves.
  1. Ministry of Health adjudged best for ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’, receives award

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been adjudged as the best department for its contribution during Swachhta Pakhwada, an inter-Ministry initiative of Swachh Bharat Mission of Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.

  • The Health Ministry observed the Swachhta Pakhwada from 1st February, 2017 to 15th February, 2017.
  • The award was presented to the Ministry on 2nd October, 2017, the third anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission. Shri C K Mishra, Secretary (HFW) received the award on behalf of the Ministry.
  1. Classical singer Manik Bhide chosen for Bhimsen Joshi award

 

Noted vocalist Manik Bhide was chosen for the prestigious Bharatratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi award for year 2017-18 for her contribution in the field of music.

  • The Maharashtra government award, the highest in the category of performing arts, consist of Rs five lakh in cash, a plaque and citation.
